Welcome to Fatworks. We are the Fattitude Adjusters and our big fat mission is to educate the mainstream population about the benefits of using REAL cooking oils like tallow, lard and duck fat while crafting these traditional fats the most natural way possible. For years fat has been marginalized, (no to mention margarinized), maligned, slandered, beat up, picked on and falsely accused! But no longer, for Fatworks is the Defenders of Fat! We have made it our mission to bring back traditional fat. But not any fat mind you, pasture raised non-gmo* free and certified Organic fat raised from animals free from antibiotics, hormones. We hope you have gotten the memo by now, but fat has been bullied for far to long, and is far from being unhealthy. Research strongly supports the idea that fat, INCLUDING SATURATED FAT, works as a vital part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. If you are passionate about cooking with the highest quality foods and understand the importance of real fat then you already know Fatworks. To you we say, "Welcome Fellow Fatworker!" Glad you finally arrived.
*Many of our farmers do not have the necessary means to get non-gmo certifications, but all farmers are vetted and have signed affidavits attesting that they do not use any gmo in their feed." Of course, the Certified Organic products are inherently non-gmo.
The Fat Version
Welcome to the history of how Fatworks became the first and only company dedicated to providing premium, quality, traditional fats.
Let's start with REAL FOOD. If you have read any of the success stories in the Paleo/Primal world then you already know the story of our transformation. In fact, if you are here, you probably have a similar story of your own. This type of transformation and awakening is thankfully becoming more and more common. Eat better then feel better.
By eating real food we naturally increased our fat intake. Yet we lost weight, felt less hungry had more energy then ever and never "boinked". So this lead us to the obvious question: how could so many nutritionists be so wrong? Turns out the recommendations that most nutritionists espouse are still horribly outdated. In addition, the rationale for what is deemed "healthy" is often times more economically or politically motivated than scientifically based. One thing became clear: the vilification of saturated fat was one of the biggest mistakes of the 20th century. Replacing fats with processed and sugary "low fat" foods has done nothing but harm to our health. Turns out eating fat does not make people fat. But more than that, when it comes to heart health, saturated fat is NOT the problem.
Oxidation is the problem! Guess which oils oxidize the most? Hint: It rhymes with “wegetable oil." Well we don't mess around with our health so we immediately removed all traces of industrialized seed/vegetable oils from our shelves. It was time to hunt for some good traditional fats so we started searcn for the best grassfed tallow, pastured lard and pastured duck fat we could find. Just one little problem. We couldn't find any that match our standards. It dawned on us: No one was dedicating themselves solely to making high quality, traditional animal fat. Fatworks was born!
The first step was to build relationships with farmers who shared our ideals. Believe us, in today's modern era of farming, this was no easy task. We found some great farmers (thankfully) and experimented for months with traditional kettle-rendering techniques to learn, hone and perfect our fat-craft. We did all this because as crazy as it may seem to some to be “passionate about fat", the truth is WE ARE NOT ALONE! In fact, there are thousands and thousands of people who have discovered the health and culinary benefits of cooking with grassfed tallow, pasture raised lard and pasture raised duck fat. These people not only include the finest Gourmet Chefs, but also, Just Eat Real Fooders, Paleo/Primal People, Weston A. Pricer's, Low Carbers, People Who Just Loves Them Some Good Food, Very Smart People, Fit and Attractive Persons, French Fry Lovers, Parents Who Care, and People Who Like to Look at Pretty Jars of Fat.
These are our kind of people. We call them “Fatworkers" and we are proud to be among this rapidly growing movement of people who care first and foremost about food quality. Even though we enjoy being a bit irreverent at times, don't misunderstand us; Fatworks mission is to be the single most trusted source for all your tallow, lard and other traditional fat needs. We decided not to hide behind a fancy sounding French name but rather to own up to what we are and what we do best, which is crafting traditional FATS. Everything from our love of fats, the farmers we work with, to the way we craft our oil is designed so that you will NEVER need to worry about the quality of your fat. Any Fatworks product will always be treated humanely, be hormone and antibiotic free, and just as importantly, pasture-raised! We strive to source animals that eat as close to their natural diet as possible because we believe this is what all animals (including humans) should do. That being said, if it helps to call us "Le Fatworks" go right ahead.
We hope you have lots of questions and will do our best to answer them on our very active Facebook page, Twitter account, and a comprehensive FAQ section. With the help of many guest bloggers and researchers we hope to shed some light on the myths surrounding saturated fat and cholesterol. We feel the general public simply needs to know this information and we are going to do our best to help.
But ultimately Fatworks is a celebration of cooking! So allow us to stress one more time that our fats will absolutely make your food taste better. It's what gourmet chefs have known all along! And the big secret is that you don't need to be a gourmet chef to use Fatworks. Just take any of your recipes that call for butter, shortening or vegetable oil and replace those with traditional fat. Back when they coined the phrase, "American as Apple Pie," those pies were cooked with Grass-Fed Tallow or Pasture Raised Lard - NOT soybean, canola or vegetable oil! We hope people will begin to realize that when, as a culture, we ate these traditional fats we were much, much healthier and fitter and our food tasted better. It is our great desire to bring back the lost art of cooking with traditional fat. This is why we are excited about teaming up with chefs and food bloggers from around the world to supply you with many delicious creations. And that, fellow Fatworker is where we hope this fat-tastical journey ends - on your dinner table - discovering for yourself and your family that fat... works.
